Michael Shepherd

Professor Emeritus, Faculty of Computer Science Dalhousie University | Canada.

Dr. Shepherd served as Dean of the Faculty from 2008 through 2015.  He also founded the Institute for Big Data Analytics at Dalhousie and chaired two successful Big Data Conferences, in 2015 and 2017.   He has served on the boards of a number of not-for-profit organizations and was the first chairperson of the Big Data Alliance of Nova Scotia, a not-for-profit for big data knowledge transfer between academia and industry.  He served previously as the Treasurer and Vice-President of the World Confederation of Productivity Science and is a Fellow of the World Academy of Productivity Science. His research area is Information Retrieval, specifically text retrieval from large unstructured data sets.  His research has also included genre for digital documents and the personalization and delivery of electronic news.  More recently, the subject of his research interest is smart cities. He was also the founder and first CEO of the Centre for Data Analytics and Business Insights at the MYRA School of Business, Mysuru, India.  More about Dr. Shepherd at:
